Farewell Haugsted, hello Wallenborn Scandinavia A/S

Farewell Haugsted, hello Wallenborn Scandinavia A/S

As of 1st October 2016, Haugsted Aircargo Services A/S officially became Wallenborn Scandinavia A/S.

Luxembourg, 03.10.2016

We are pleased to announce this important change in our organisation!

The name change is a result of our rebranding effort designed to mirror the growth and transformation of our organisation.

Incorporated all the way back in 1974, Haugsted was an institution in its own right, and saying goodbye after 42 years of history no doubt comes with mixed feelings for many. Haugsted has always had a clear reputation for quality, both in terms of their operations and their people. It was this quality, along with their strong customer base which made the company an attractive aqcuisition for Wallenborn. Haugsted also shared the same philosophy as Wallenborn and was geographically complementary in terms of its network, with offices in Kastrup and Billund. Since 2009 we gradually and smoothly integrated, and Haugsted Aircargo Services A/S has prospered as an important member of the Wallenborn Group.

Now it is time to take this next step. The re-branding effort is supported by renewed, and substantial, investment in Wallenborn Scandinavia A/S. This includes software development and a recent order for 25 new Tautliner trailers in Wallenborn colours, scheduled for delivery in the final quarter of this year. Peter NygaardPeter Nygaard, Branch Manager, has been instrumental in leading this effort and guiding his team, customers, and partners through this transition. In his recent letter to clients and business associates he wrote:

“Wallenborn Scandinavia A/S brings forth a renewed commitment to all of our clients and relationships. As we further emerge into this exciting phase of growth, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank our loyal clients and business associates.  Without your ongoing support this exciting evolution of our company would not be possible, and Wallenborn Scandinavia A/S looks forward to a mutually positive and productive future with you.”

Some key individuals in Peter’s team who have also been crucial to a successful transition include Martin Knudsen, Operations Manager in Copenhagen, who spent 22 years with Haugsted, and Michael Skov, Operations Manager in Billund; Berith S. Jensen who leads the Administration & Invoicing departments, and has been with Haugsted over 14 years; and Kenneth Enevoldsen who led the technical side of the re-branding, and has been with Haugsted over 10 years.

Using one brand name is the best way to communicate that we are a seamless organisation with broad geographic reach. We also believe that marketing our services under one powerful brand with a long history of success around the world will result in even greater marketplace presence. We are excited about this new chapter within Wallenborn and look forward to serving our customers with continued, yet also renewed dedication.

Qatar Airways extends cooperation with Wallenborn

Qatar Airways extends cooperation with Wallenborn

Qatar Airways, now the world’s third largest international cargo carrier, forged its first partnership with Wallenborn in 2003 when it commenced European freighter flights to Amsterdam Schiphol.

Luxembourg, 02.05.2016

Today, Wallenborn provides a variety of logistical services to the fast-growing Gulf-based carrier and is its first choice RFS partner for Europe. As Qatar Airways has expanded its freighter footprint, Wallenborn has expanded its network and product portfolio to keep pace with the requirements of the world’s major shippers.

The partnership now covers Qatar Airways’ freighter gateways at AMS, BRU, BUD, CDG, FRA, LGG, LUX, MXP, PRG and STN plus passenger stations at AMS, BRU, CPH, FCO, FRA, LHR, MUC, MXP, TXL, VCE and VIE.

Wallenborn’s Jason Breakwell commented: “Qatar Airways is chosen by leading global forwarders because of its agility and reliability. We work hand-in-glove with the airline’s entire cargo management team – network, sales and operations – to ensure our procedures, schedules and rates exactly match market requirements. Our implants at major gateways work closely with Qatar staff and their ground handlers to prevent delays and discrepancies and to ensure that sensitive shipments are consistently delivered on time directly to consignees. We are proud to be partnering with such a progressive and ambitious airline.”

Qatar Airways Cargo operates a modern fleet of A330, B777 and B747 freighters as well as one of the world’s most modern and capable hubs at Hamad International Airport in Doha. Special products offered by the airline now include services for express, livestock, dangerous goods, valuables, vulnerable goods, motor vehicles, perishables and oversized shipments.

Air China Cargo signs up for ‘total care’ solution

Air China Cargo signs up for ‘total care’ solution

Air China Cargo underlined its confidence in Wallenborn by signing separate agreements in 2015 covering road feeder services from several gateways, including ARN (Stockholm), FCO (Rome), GVA (Geneva) and MXP (Milan).

Luxembourg, 02.11.2015

Beijing-based Air China Cargo – China’s largest international airline – also signed a landmark agreement with Wallenborn to provide all import cargo handling services at 112 offline locations in 26 countries.

Previously, the airline had multiple agreements but Wallenborn was able to seamlessly integrate all contracts under one standard Service Level Agreement which includes standards for check-ins, messaging and handovers to customers.

Jason Breakwell, Manager, Development & Key Accounts at Wallenborn, and the strategic key account manager for Air China Cargo since 2012, remarked:“The key to this successful collaboration has been openness and trust. We provide a ‘total care’ package to Air China Cargo which not only requires comprehensive RFS networks from the airline’s freighter hubs at AMS (Amsterdam Schiphol) and FRA (Frankfurt) and its passenger stations, but also involves a whole range of service enhancements. This includes customer service, dedicated Chinese-speaking staff, ULD management, Customs services, project management, eFreight implementation and offline handling. We are proud to be an important partner to Air China Cargo and to be helping the airline to blossom across Europe.”

Quality, efficiency and product development underpin Cargolux’s decision

Quality, efficiency and product development underpin Cargolux’s decision to extend Wallenborn partnership

Wallenborn has signed a new and extended ground logistics contract with Cargolux to support the airline’s enhanced European transport network.

Luxembourg, 01.10.2015

Previously, Europe’s largest all-cargo airline worked with around 30 different trucking companies to distribute freight across the continent and support its growing cargo operation. In 2015, the airline recorded an 8.7% growth in demand and operated some 6.9 billion freight ton-kilometres. By consolidating its number of partners, Cargolux has not only achieved important business efficiencies but also benefited from new technology advancements, a fresh approach to how it manages offline handling, and the opportunity to further develop its range of products.

Wallenborn is now one of a small group of Cargolux’s preferred ground logistics partners in Europe and has earned a growing share of the airline’s more than 50,000 truck journeys across the continent, covering a reported distance in excess of 33 million kilometres per year.

With its extended contract, Wallenborn now provides road transport services for Cargolux to and from, and within, the United Kingdom and Italy, two of the airline’s prime markets in Europe. It has also been awarded responsibility to manage all of the carrier’s offline cargo handling services in Italy and the UK.

While service quality and value underpin the relationship between the two companies, which first began in 2004, Cargolux has also recognised Wallenborn’s ability to improve the flow of real-time information for its customers and create new revenue generation opportunities in key vertical markets. These include enhancing its ability to attract new customers in sectors such as aerospace, fashion and healthcare. On the technology front, Wallenborn has already implemented a new messaging platform and a system to measure the performance of road feeder services.

Jason Holt, Executive Vice President Flight Operations at Cargolux, commented:“The UK is an essential market for Cargolux with large volumes of prestige goods moving in both directions across the Channel. Similarly, we hold a strong position in the Italian market and road feeder services to and from Milan Malpensa are indispensable to Cargolux Italia, our successful local subsidiary. Cargolux selected Wallenborn as RFS and handling partner because they meet important criteria: their modern fleet consisting of Euro 6 type vehicles, enabling many transport options and complying with ambitious emission standards set by Brussels; sufficient capacity of multiple vehicle types; fast turnaround times at the airports in scope; up-to-date and adaptable IT system guaranteeing excellent connectivity with Cargolux; and last but not least, their wealth of experience. This enhances our services to the benefit of our clients, standardises our offering and saves costs at the end of the day.”

Frantz Wallenborn, President & CEO, said: “As a company headquartered in Luxembourg we are extremely proud to have extended our contract with Cargolux. Like Wallenborn, the airline believes in delivering the highest levels of customer service and in using technologies that improve our performance and give our customers more visibility based on fast and accurate information. We also share a commitment to operating the most modern and efficient fleets and to the development of tailored products that create new opportunities for us and our customers. I am confident that our longstanding relationship with Cargolux will continue to grow through the joint benefits we can offer each other.”

Cargolux has a highly developed and reliable road feeder services network serving three European hubs in Luxembourg, Milan and Prestwick, and an advanced truck management system at the Luxair Cargo Centre, synchronised with the ‘waves’ of flights it operates in and out of Luxembourg. The airline’s fleet of modern Boeing 747-8F and Boeing 747-400 freighters serve a worldwide network covering some 90 destinations.

AirBridgeCargo awards Wallenborn new 3-year contract

AirBridgeCargo awards Wallenborn new 3-year contract

Wallenborn has signed a new and extended ground logistics contract with Cargolux to support the airline’s enhanced European transport network.

Luxembourg, 01.09.2015

In its latest figures for Q1 2016, ABC reported 27% year-on-year growth, carrying 132,000 tonnes over the opening three months of the year. March 2016 was the most successful month in the airline’s 12-year history as its volumes rose 35% to 51,000 tonnes. In the last year, ABC’s growth has been accelerated by the addition of more new routes to its network, including Singapore, Hanoi, Helsinki, Los Angeles and Atlanta, as well as additional frequencies on prime markets such as Tokyo. The start of the year also saw ABC extend its coverage into Africa through an ACMI partnership with CargoLogicAir which added Libreville, Johannesburg and Nairobi to its schedule.

Commenting on the contract extension, Frantz Wallenborn noted: “It has given us great pleasure to witness the impressive growth of AirBridgeCargo and we expect this to continue in the future as the airline continues to invest in its fleet and grows its global network in new continents including Africa and South America. Our investment in highly specialised products, including our ‘BIG’ fleet of trailers and drivers, has played an important role in helping AirBridgeCargo to become the leading freighter operator at several major European airports.

“AirBridgeCargo requires strong and innovative partners who are able to provide highly flexible support at major hubs such as AMS-Schiphol, Milan-MXP and Paris-CDG. Through our consistent investments in hardware and personnel we have demonstrated our commitment to anticipate and match the needs of AirBridgeCargo as its growth continues to outpace the market. As long-term partners, this relationship has helped both companies to grow in terms of scale, scope and products.”

Wallenborn Transports was pleased to welcome its customers, associates and distinguished guests to one of the world’s largest supply chain events, “Transport Logistic” held in Munich from 5 to 8 May.

Luxembourg, 08.05.2015

Speaking from the Wallenborn exhibition space in the heart of the buzzing “Air Cargo Europe” hall, Mr Frantz Wallenborn, the Group President and CEO, stated: “This is our third successive attendance at “Transport Logistic”, the foremost meeting place for supply chain professionals. Since our first participation at Air Cargo Europe in 2011 our capabilities and capacity grew substantially and we are now recognised as the European leader in our market segment. Therefore, it was fitting that our presence in Munich was our largest yet and we received a record number of visitors. I was especially honoured to welcome our Luxembourg Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Mr François Bausch. I took the opportunity to present to him our latest service and network developments and to emphasise our success in raising awareness of Luxembourg amongst our numerous multinational customers.”

During the last five years, the Wallenborn group, with its thirteen offices in eleven countries, has extended its air-cargo road feeder network to connect 120 airports across Europe.

This network, recently reinforced by the opening of service centres in Milan and Vienna, offers trucking, handling and track and trace. Besides its leadership in Europe, Wallenborn expanded to the Middle East opening offices in Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates; more developments in the Gulf region will be announced very soon. At the same time, Wallenborn has developed a wide range of products including GDP validated services for the healthcare sector and TAPA TSR certified services for highly vulnerable cargo.

Luxembourg, 01.09.2014

The agreement covers all regional routes from and to Singapore Airlines’ gateways of Copenhagen and Oslo and utilises Wallenborn’s extensive scheduled network covering Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

An important element of the new contract is Wallenborn’s ability to provide short notice capacity at freighter hubs including Amsterdam, Brussels and Copenhagen. Singapore Airlines has a strong market share in the Nordics with excellent connections from and to the Asia Pacific region, as well as a range of premium products including Perishables, Pharmaceutical, Coldchain and Swiftrider.

Frantz Wallenborn, Group President: “We are very proud to be a strategic partner for Singapore Airlines, a truly five-star airline that shares our core values of investment in innovation and quality.”

Doing Business in Europe

Doing Business in Europe

China Southern Airlines landed in Europe in 1996 with its first passenger flight to Amsterdam and one of its first decisions was to partner with Wallenborn to maximize its cargo revenue opportunities by offering customers a fast and reliable transport network covering the European market.

Luxembourg, 01.07.2014

Mr. Yhang Deyhi, Vice President of China Southern Cargo, says choosing the right partners to work with in Europe is essential if airlines are to realise the full potential of the market and its 500 million consumers. “The most important requirements for China-based customers are to have efficient, secure and cost effective Road Feeder Services (RFS). These have played a vital role in our development in the European market because we rely on each other to deliver. Without RFS, we could neither reach multiple destinations throughout Europe nor provide value-added services such as Built Up Pallets (BUP) and Direct Delivery Services (DDS). Having efficient road transport operations also means we can offer tailor-made services to our customers.”

Europe and the U.S. are China Southern Cargo’s most important international markets and are both served with maindeck cargo capacity. The balanced international trade flow between China-Europe-China makes the EU a particularly attractive cargo market. Today, the airline’s gateways in Europe are Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris and Vienna, and its continued network growth is based on the high level of customer trust it has gained in the European market.

Air China Cargo is also a major user of Wallenborn’s Road Feeder Services in Europe to connect with its freighter and passenger flights serving 10 cities on the continent. Europe generates some 52% of the airline’s total tonnage and as Mr. Ray Lo, the airline’s Vice President – Service & Operations, says “Our European trucking network is definitely very important to us, especially the inbound trucks. Customers like to have choices to suit their own requirements, for instance standby cargo with a cheaper rate for less urgent shipments or the ability to arrange a direct delivery service or an exclusive truck for urgent cargoes.”

Both airlines recognize the challenges that can arise from doing business in Europe. “We have to be fully aware of the language problem and communication gap between Chinese customers and their counterparts in Europe. Therefore, they rely strongly on airlines to take good care of their cargo whatever the shipment status is and to address any customs problems. This is especially true for small and medium-sized forwarders in China when they are sending cargo to Europe”, Ray Lo says.

Air China Cargo, he adds, is working hard to help customers in China understand the potential of the market in Europe and the choices available to them.

Mr. Bian Zuhua, CEO of Yangtze River Airlines, says Europe has been an important market for the airline ever since it commenced operations in 2002, alongside China’s domestic market and intra-Asia and transpacific routes. “Europe has become the most stable market and has the highest transportation, which occupies an important position in the company’s strategic development. Nowadays, on the basis of our services to AMS, HHN and LUX, Yangtze River Express can cover Europe, supported by qualified truck companies as well as a variety of charter flights. Yangtze River Express has the ability to satisfy the main needs of customers: large airline network coverage, more segmented pricing policy, more efficient transfer speed, safer cargo transportation and a more timely and more transparent cargo-tracking service.”

China Southern Cargo’s Mr. Zhang Dezhi, Vice President Cargo adds: “With the growing buying power of the global forwarders, customers are becoming more and more demanding. They require large network coverage, tailor-made service, time definite delivery, cost effective pricing and transparent information. China Southern Cargo is trying our best to be on track with these customer dynamics to reach their expectations.”

He say airlines also need a resilient Road Feeder Services and transport partner in Europe given the high rates of cargo crime, with organized crime gangs targeting high value products being moved by road across Europe. As a long-term member of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, Wallenborn’s own high security services are underpinned by the supply chain’s most respected security standards.

He also highlights the importance of operational and communication alignment between ground handling agents and RFS operators to facilitate the most efficient air-truck transfers and to deal with any irregularities that occur in the shipping process.

“Being one of the major RFS players in the European market, Wallenborn is a reputable trucking company that has the experience, expertise and strength to support China Southern as the airline grows stronger”, Zhang Dezhi said confidently.

Bian Zuhua of Yangtze River Airlines agrees. He said: “Nowadays, customers not only want a broader range of airline coverage but also more timely transshipment, higher transportation safety, more personalized products and services, and higher quality cargo-tracking services. Road Feeder Services in Europe play a significant role within the range of airline coverage, diversified service of DDX/BUP and more transparent cargo-tracking service. We appointed Wallenborn as one of our important strategic partners in Europe when we started our PVG-AMS route in 2013. As one of the well-known RFS companies in Europe, Wallenborn has shown its powerful transfer ability and trusted service quality to us, which makes us believe that we can satisfy our customers better with the help of Wallenborn. We hope we can both further develop our market competitiveness and make more strategic progress through our cooperation.”

China Cargo Airlines contracts with Wallenborn to reach over 100 destinations across Europe

China Cargo Airlines contracts with Wallenborn to reach over 100 destinations across Europe

China Cargo Airlines has awarded an exclusive contract to Wallenborn to manage Road Feeder Services from Frankfurt (FRA) to over 100 European destinations.

Luxembourg, 01.05.2014

Wallenborn is the largest RFS service provider in Germany with the highest number of frequencies and the most comprehensive scheduled network. In addition to airport-to-airport trucking, China Cargo Airlines has contracted Wallenborn to provide customs services at FRA, supervision of cargo handling and direct deliveries to important consignees.

Mr. Taojun, Chief Marketing Officer of China Cargo Airlines, said: “Frankfurt is Europe’s largest air cargo gateway and it is very important in helping companies in China and Europe to conduct trade together. Working with Wallenborn is a natural choice given its network, modern and efficient fleet, and its expertise in working with Chinese airlines and customers.”

Jason Breakwell, Manager, Key Accounts & Development at Wallenborn, added: “We are honoured that China’s number one all-cargo airline has chosen Wallenborn for such an important contract and look forward to supporting the airline’s continued growth in Europe by meeting its customers’ expectations.”

A joint venture between China Eastern Airlines and China Ocean Shipping, China Cargo Airlines operates 12 freighters including six Boeing 777s and also utilizes the China Eastern Airlines’ route structure. Its main hub is at Shanghai Pudong Airport and it also flies from seven other cities in China to Asia, Europe and North America.
