Panalpina partners with Wallenborn at its ‘Pharma and Healthcare Hub’ in Luxembourg

Panalpina, one of the world’s leading supply chain solutions providers, works with Wallenborn to extend its cold chain solutions for the healthcare industry.

Luxembourg, 01.04.2014

After achieving Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification of its Amsterdam (AMS) and Brussels (BRU) gateways, in 2013 Panalpina obtained GDP approval for its largest global hub in Luxembourg (LUX), taking its total number of Healthcare Centres of Excellence to 11. Panalpina focuses on providing supply chain and cool chain solutions for the healthcare products within its own controlled network and has earned a ‘best-in-class’ reputation for its service offering ranging from pharmaceuticals to life science, and medical devices to bio and specialty chemicals.

Since starting its own network in Luxembourg in 1973, Panalpina now employs 150 people and offers a wide range of cold chain logistics and packing solutions from its brand new warehouse facilities. The facility offers 70 temperature controlled ULD container positions plus plug-in options for 12 ‘active’ containers, but these technical capabilities are only part of Panalpina’s solution. The Luxembourg centre has taken a holistic approach to the cold chain and has facilitated the creation of a ‘Pharma and Healthcare Hub’ that is unrivalled in Europe and unites private and public stakeholders to give customers a genuinely seamless service. Another unique facet of the LUX operation is the short distance from truck ramp to aircraft and vice versa, just 108 metres. Panalpina makes extensive use of Wallenborn’s road feeder network, which provides door-to-door trucking services for healthcare customers, and has been an enthusiastic supporter of Wallenborn’s own GDP-certified product.

Paul Fairclough, Panalpina’s Head of Healthcare at its LUX and FRA Gateways, commented: “Our customers expect the highest standards of reliability and consistency when using Panalpina, both in the air and on the ground. Our long-term and strategic partnership with Wallenborn provides our key accounts with peace of mind in terms of temperature management, shipment traceability and security.”

Wallenborn online at Sharjah International Airport

Wallenborn online at Sharjah International Airport

Europe’s leading Road Feeder Services provider has opened a second office in the U.A.E. with the addition of Sharjah to its network.

This latest expansion in the region comes just eight months after Wallenborn opened in Dubai. Launching in Sharjah is in response to fast growing demand for Wallenborn’s air cargo trucking services from airlines, forwarders and integrators across the U.A.E.

Luxembourg, 02.02.2024

Frantz Wallenborn, Group President, said: “We opened our first Middle Eastern office in Dubai in 2013 with a strategy to provide the product portfolio and quality standards Wallenborn is recognised for in Europe. Our intention is to progressively develop a network of offices and services across the Middle East. Sharjah is one of the region’s fastest growing cargo airports and its management team recognises that reliable RFS is a critical requirement of the airport’s customers.” Shashi Panicker, Head of cargo at Sharjah Aviation Service, said: “Sharjah is the perfect choice for Wallenborn’s latest location in the UAE. It is a highly efficient and respected cargo airport that is well connected to all major international destinations. The airport is also only 15 kilometres away from Dubai.”

Maintaining the integrity of temperature controlled life science products

Maintaining the integrity of temperature controlled life science products

Good Distribution Practice (GDP) is the only recognized certification by the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare industry as well as the European Authorities.

Wallenborn is the first road transport provider in Luxembourg to be GDP certified, as part of a project led by the Luxembourg government.

Luxembourg, 01.10.2013

The latest ‘Guidelines for Good Distribution Practice of Medical Products for Human Use (GDP)’ came into force in March 2013 to ensure control of the supply chain and, consequently, maintain the quality and integrity of medicinal products.

Wallenborn was one of the first transport companies to achieve GDP certification and has used this prestigious and rare accreditation as a platform to develop specialised services for the life sciences sector. Its procedures and practices have fully embraced GDP, notably the integration of quality management, operations, personnel training and control, documentation and continuous improvement.

Wallenborn has combined its monitoring and intervention technologies with the latest temperature management techniques. This means it is able to remotely track and control container temperatures and provide full and ‘real-time’ data access to customers. “China is already Europe’s fourth largest trading partner in the pharmaceutical sector and we expect a huge increase in this trade in the short-term. We have developed a cold chain solution that gives Chinese companies quick and easy access from and to the European healthcare market in compliance with strict regulatory requirements,” said Jason Breakwell, Manager, Key Accounts & Development.

Service Features:
• A new fleet oftemperaturecontrolled trailers
• Driverstrained in accordance with GDP guidelines
• 24/7 temperature monitoring, recording and read-outs
• Pre-excursion alarms
• Dualtemperature vehicles

IJS Global’s new Pharma Warehouse in Frankfurt relies on Wallenborn’s reliability

IJS Global’s new Pharma Warehouse in Frankfurt relies on Wallenborn’s reliability

IJS Global is another logistics service provider that relies on Wallenborn’s services and expertise to ensure the integrity of its customers’ pharmaceutical products through both temperature-control management and supply chain security.

Luxembourg, 01.08.2013

Understanding the compelling needs of the healthcare sector with its tight regulations and increasing demand for quality service, IJS Global Frankfurt has invested in a brand new state-of-the-art Pharma Warehouse. The facility is actively temperature controlled at 15°C to 25°C and fitted with a 70m2 2°C to 8°C Cool Chamber and has been designed to meet the latest GDP guidelines.

In each of the two temperature zones, ULDs such as Envirotainer and CSafe containers can be built within the temperature range requested by the customer. The building’s epoxy floor ensures a clean and dust free environment to handle any type of pharmaceuticals, while another one of the unique selling points of the warehouse is its ability to x-ray unknown freight within a temperature-controlled and secured area. This provides pharmaceutical companies, who are not yet ‘known shippers’, with the assurance that their temperature controlled supply chain remains intact at all times.

Christoph Schneider, Branch Manager of IJS Global (Germany), said: “The launch of the New Pharma Warehouse strengthens our position in the healthcare sector and demonstrates a strong commitment to the pharmaceutical industry. It is important for IJS Global to work with partners that match our high requirements and especially the needs of our customers. In that perspective, IJS Global counts on the reliability of Wallenborn’s services and their new GDP compliant transport fleet.”

IJS Global has also created a high security area to handle high value goods as well as narcotics in a secured environment and the entire warehouse, entrances and docking stations are monitored by CCTV 24/7 and equipped with access controls.
