Wallenborn’s dedicated GDP team played a significant role in a vital global initiative managed by Yusen Logistics during 2021 and 2022 to deliver 300 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

Wallenborn’s dedicated GDP team played a significant role in a vital global initiative managed by Yusen Logistics during 2021 and 2022 to deliver 300 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

Jason Breakwell, the Group Commercial Director at Wallenborn who was actively involved in the scoping, planning and execution of Wallenborn’s contribution to this intricate and extensive project, stated “it was a privilege and an extremely rewarding experience to participate in such a crucial life-saving initiative. One can easily imagine that the entire project, from its inception to the delivery of the ultimate dose, had to be carried out under the highest levels of confidentiality”. He further remarked: “Yusen entrusted Wallenborn from the outset and valued our proficiency in supply chain mapping, creating route risk assessments and collaborating with all stakeholders to deliver solutions that were resilient, adaptable, and dependable. Furthermore, our deployment of bi-temperature assets facilitated the safe and secure co-loading of shipments for multiple deliveries.”

Wallenborn’s dedicated GDP team were a strategic partner in this vital project:

  • providing vital operational and security intelligence
  • designing secure transportation routes
  • liaising with law enforcement agencies
  • contributing resources and expertise to enable a smooth rollout
  • supplying flexible capacity to distribute to 12 countries across Europe

Breaking up is hard to do – a TAPA Vigilant article

Breaking up is hard to do – a TAPA Vigilant article

28.02.2019

With so much still to be decided and time running out, Jason Breakwell, Vice Chair of TAPA EMEA, looks at how Brexit may impact supply chains and offers some guidance on maintaining resilience.

Luxembourg, 28.02.2019

“It’s virtually impossible to talk about Brexit – the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the EU – and to not use the word ‘uncertainty’ in the same sentence. As the clock ticks down to the day and time the UK is supposed to leave the Union – 23.00hrs GMT on 29 March 2019 to be precise – so much is still to be agreed, to the point where ‘uncertainty’ is probably putting it mildly.

For companies, the waiting game or the great unknown while British politicians and EU negotiators face off, is massively unsettling. While all sorts of scenarios are being played out and planned for behind the scenes, few companies are going public with their plans and most are simply having to refer back to the plethora of guidance notices being published by officials in Brussels and London.

For supply chains, any interruption to the free flow of goods between the UK and Europe naturally leads to fears of food and medicine shortages, trucks parked for hours at the border and a raft of additional costs, productivity losses and security risks. Preparations to allay such concerns have failed to inspire. Earlier in the year, the UK government organised a ‘practice run for a No Deal traffic jam’ to see how the port of Dover would cope, sending in a convoy of 87 trucks. All seemed to be going well until someone pointed out that Dover processes some 10,000 trucks a day.

So, what are we to think – and, most importantly, what are we to do at this eleventh hour?”

The Brexit conundrum – a CAAS article

The Brexit conundrum – a CAAS article

14.02.2019

Cargo Airports & Airline Services (CAAS) speaks with Wallenborn’s Jason Breakwell for input on a “Brexit conundrum” story featured in their February-March 20219 edition of their magazine.

Luxembourg, 14.02.2019

“Air cargo players and the wider freight transport and logistics sector – and their customers – continue to face an unnerving level of uncertainty and planning challenges over the UK’s planned departure from the European Union (EU) on 29 March.”

“The major short-term fear of the freight industry and its customers is that a ‘hard’ or ‘no-deal’, cliff-edge UK exit from the EU will trigger the re-introduction of border controls, leading to massive tailbacks of trucks at Channel ports and bringing chaos to supply chains, especially those that rely on just-in-time production cycles and perishable goods.”

“Wallenborn Transports is not expecting a hard Brexit and anticipates that potential problems will be ironed out during a transition period. But Breakwell says Wallenborn, like many other companies, is preparing for ‘no-deal’ – “not because we expect ‘no-deal’, but because there will be minimal disruption in all other scenarios”.”

The article dives into topics including road feeder issues, contingency action plans, major concerns, border bottlenecks, no-deal Brexit, RFS clearances, and queues of trucks.

RTL Report on Brexit: From Munsbach to Heathrow

RTL accompanies Wallenborn on the road…

Luxembourg, 10.12.2018

The outcome of Brexit is still uncertain and logistics companies could be impacted heavily. The Luxembourg TV channel RTL accompanied a Wallenborn driver from Munsbach to Heathrow in order to showcase the issues drivers face everyday. Traffic, lengthy border controls, refugees trying to hide in trucks are just some of the factors our drivers have to deal with every day. While the borders are not exactly frictionless today, a hard Brexit would severely affect logistics companies.

Truckers keep air cargo on the road

Truckers keep air cargo on the road

11.06.2018

Wallenborn features in Air Cargo Week.

Luxembourg, 11.06.2018

Road Feeder Services are vital in the air cargo supply chain. Global providers talk about growing demand, capacity challenges and digitalisation opportunities, writes David Craik.

Jan de Rijk Logistics chief executive, Sebastiaan Scholte says the last 12 months has seen a lot of growth in its road feeder service volumes. However, there are mounting challenges.

The main hurdle has been driven by an ongoing capacity squeeze in the sector which has led to increased operating costs. “There is a shortage of manpower and drivers in the logistics industry in general,” he states. “There aren’t enough young people wanting to get into the industry because they don’t find it exciting enough or because there aren’t as many of them around given the ageing demographics in Europe.”

Wallenborn commercial director, Jason Breakwell says it has experienced similar challenges and opportunities.

In short, the AEO scheme’s mission is to:

“Both commercial and consumer sentiment has been more positive in the last 12 months or so. As a result, there has been higher demand for transport movements including re-stocking,” he states. “In 2017 our volumes were up 20 per cent year on year and in the first quarter of 2018 we are eight per cent ahead of the same period last year. “There has been a real capacity squeeze particularly through driver shortages as the plentiful source from Eastern Europe begins to dry up. But new legislation in some EU countries around rest breaks and minimum wage payments has also restricted the movement of truck drivers,” he adds.

Wallenborn attains ISO 9001:2015 certification

Wallenborn attains ISO 9001:2015 certification

05.06.2018

As Wallenborn’s ISO 9001:2008 certification drew to a close, we successfully renewed the accreditation by qualifying for the ISO 9001:2015 certification.

Luxembourg, 05.06.2018

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 161 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.

The ISO 9000 family addresses various aspects of quality management and contains some of ISO’s best known standards. The standards provide guidance and tools for companies and organizations who want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet customer’s requirements, and that quality is consistently improved.

In short, the AEO scheme’s mission is to:

ISO 9001:2015 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified. This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continuous improvement. Using ISO 9001:2015 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits.

Wallenborn first became ISO certified back in May 2009. As an organisation with a strong focus on quality, it made sense to attain an official “stamp of approval” in this regard. This updated accreditation is testament to our dedication to continuously maintaining high standards of service and customer care.
