Wallenborn featured in Air Cargo Week

Wallenborn featured in Air Cargo Week

24.10.2017

This week’s Air Cargo Week magazine highlights temperature sensitive transport.

Luxembourg, 24.10.2017

Cool chain shipments are playing a big part in the better performance of air cargo as demand for perishables, pharmaceuticals and other temperature sensitive goods continues, and positive development of the sector looks to be a certainty for the industry.

Page 12 of this week’s Air Cargo Week magazine features a short write up on our view of this segment. We have seen continuous growth in demand for temperature controlled transportation since April 2017, and in May expanded our fleet with 12 new Bi-temperature trailers. We see high potential in this sector.

According to MarketsandMarkets the refrigerated road transport market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.67%, in terms of value, from 2017 to reach a projected value of USD 17.82 Billion by 2022.

The European region is projected to have the largest and the fastest growing market share within this projection. Particularly the multi-temperature segment has the quickest growth when compared to single-temperature.

The advantage of our bi-temperature trailers for customers is that they can now benefit from cost savings in using only one truck, when in the past two trucks would have been required for the same transport. Simultaneously, this makes for more environmentally friendly transport. In addition, this service benefits the current trucking capacity situation on the market, with demand higher than ever before in Europe, and supply diminishing.

Air Cargo week also appears in a digital format and its news content is the driver of a number of significant web sites around the world including the renowned air logistics information website www.azfreight.com.

Air Cargo Week’s status in the industry is confirmed by the recognition of the prestigious ACW World Air Cargo Awards acknowledged as the most prestigious in the world and presented at Gala Events at Air Cargo Europe and Air Cargo China.

ACN Interview: Regulatory headache for European road feeder operators

ACN Interview: Regulatory headache for European road feeder operators

26.06.2017

An interview with Jason Breakwell, our Commercial Director. One of this week’s Air Cargo News top stories “Regulatory headache for European road feeder operators”

Luxembourg, 26.06.2017

European Commission regulations on drivers’ pay and rest breaks are causing significant cost and network capacity problems for air cargo’s road feeder services (RFS) sector, say two major truck operators.

The regulations mean that drivers resting overnight in certain European Union (EU) countries have to stay in a hotel rather than sleep in their cab, the industry norm for decades. The other regulation requires drivers to be paid the minimum wage for each country where they pick up or drop off a load, although transit road haulage is not affected.

Luxembourg-headquartered Wallenborn and Jan de Rijk of the Netherlands do not oppose the principle of minimum wages and hotel accommodation, but the RFS providers say that the rules should be applied equally throughout the EU, not country by country, and that the wage regulations add complexity and burden at a time when Europe faces a driver shortage.

Wallenborn opens in Liège

Wallenborn opens in Liège

Wallenborn grows together with its clients.

Luxembourg, 27.03.2017

Our values define who we are and form the foundation of our culture. They are shared by everyone across all levels of the organization. They guide our actions and behaviour, and influence the way we work with each other and the way we serve our customers. The first of our five core values is Customer focus, which means that our goals are aligned with our clients’ goals. It is for this reason that Wallenborn has just opened an office in Liège.

Frantz Wallenborn says: “As we develop our relationships with clients, we notice a growing need to have a presence in Liège itself. So much traffic flows through Belgium and it was important to our clients that we have the capability to offer greater support on site. In the short time we have been in Liège, we have already seen a further increase in demand for our services there.”

Wallenborn welcomes Donald Schaap who has joined to start up the Liège office. Donald brings with him 14 years of experience in air cargo logistics, coupled with a passion for new challenges, providing excellent customer care, and growing the business. A Belgian national, at the age of 16 he was first exposed to air cargo RFS planning at Brucargo Express NV. Although he chose to then study informatics and accounting, Donald remained fascinated by logistics. So, in 2003 he started at H.Essers as a dispatcher, and quickly progressed up the ranks to team leader planning, operations manager, project & business development. He also spent several years at J.Van Roosbroeck, a regional transport company.

Donald says: “Most members of my family worked in the air cargo business, so in some way I guess my fate was pre-determined. Still, after all these years I am loving the industry and am especially excited about this newly accepted challenge.”

If you are in the area and/or would like to learn more about how we can support you in Liège, please contact Donald via the information below, or simply pop into the office to say hello.
